I repeat, film is not dead. I fell in love with film photography because it is a medium that mother and my grandmother used to document my childhood. Most of my most treasured moments are captured on film. I have a photo framed of my mother, my sister, and myself, when I experienced snowfall for the first time as a child (being from Alabama we had never seen the snow), the color, the memories, and the medium it is capture on truly make that image dear to my heart….there is something so nostalgic about film photography to me. It reminds me to take things a slower pace, to truly live in and capture “the moment”, and the color of film (no matter how many presets I’ve tried) can’t be matched. I come from a digital photography background. I spent nine of my eleven years of being a photographer shooting digital and just in the last two years reverted to film. I fell in love with the history and nostalgia of film and I had absolutely no idea where to start. What camera do I buy? What film? Did I need anything else? What if I messed it up, royally messed it up? These were all questions running through my mind as I am sure they are yours. First, and foremost film is not as hard to shoot as you may think. It just takes training your mind a little differently and planning your sessions a little differently to make a successful shoot.
