Edges are an important element of a painting and being aware of how different edges can help to create depth and form in our paintings is an important skill to learn. Where you place your soft and lost edges and where you position your hard defined edges have a huge influence on where you direct the eye of your viewer.

In this class you’ll begin to gain an awareness of how to use lost edges to help create a sense of both form and depth in your subject. Join professional artist and qualified teacher Louise Demasi for a guided watercolour painting lesson of this beautiful rose.

When you begin painting you’ll use lost paint edges towards the back of the rose and hard edges at the front of the rose to add dimension and to guide the viewer’s eye around the painting. You’ll also use the element of contrast to help add more depth to the rose. Louise will guide you step by step through the entire painting. You’ll have access to the reference photo, the supplies list, the line drawing, progress photos of Louise’s painting and a copy of her final painting.

If you’re ready to improve your existing painting skills then rinse off your brushes, squeeze out your paints and let’s get started.
